Novel coronavirus was disappointed by China's failure to contain the new coronavirus, Trump said in an interview with Fox Business Network on Thursday. The pandemic has cast a shadow over the Sino US trade agreement which he saw as a major achievement.
Tensions between the two world's largest economies have skyrocketed in recent weeks, with officials on both sides saying they may abandon the painstaking trade deal. The agreement has defused a fierce 18 month trade war.
Asked if the trade deal was about to break down, Kudrow replied, "absolutely not."
He said China is working hard to implement the agreement. The agreement requires China to increase its purchases of US agricultural products, manufactured goods, energy and services by US $200 billion over the next two years.
"They are a little slow in buying commodities. I think it has a lot to do with the market and the economic situation, "he said.
In the same week that Kudrow made the comments, trump criticized China's early response to the epidemic, and the U.S. government took other steps to crack down on Huawei, the Chinese telecom equipment giant, and restrict U.S. investment in some Chinese enterprises.
