Apple's (AAPL. O) budget conscious new iPhone se is unlikely to be the main driver of sales in China, with analysts pointing out that it lacks 5g features, unlike most new smartphones in China that are priced close. Provide.
In a poll on Weibo, a social media site, about 60% of 350000 respondents said they would not buy the $399 iPhone, the cheapest model.
But about one in five said they would buy, and the rest said they would consider buying. Although respondents were not asked why they chose in the survey, many said they would be interested if prices fell further.
A Weibo user said, "if you don't buy it, I won't buy it, and the price will fall another 200 yuan (28 dollars) tomorrow," and his comments got more than 10000 points of praise.
Apple is the third largest market in China, accounting for about 15% of its sales. In the past few years, Apple's market share has declined as the Chinese Android brand has steadily released high-end mobile phones.
The competition will only get fiercer as competitors are now releasing 5g devices that are compatible with China's upgraded telecommunications network, while Apple has yet to release an iPhone with 5g capabilities.
Last week, several Chinese online retailers cut the price of the iPhone 11 by 17%. Apple occasionally allows its Chinese seller partners to cut prices to stimulate demand, although it rarely allows overseas sellers to price.
