The Japanese government said Friday there was no need to declare a state of emergency after Prime Minister Shinzo Abe described the coronavirus as a "national crisis" after a spate of cases in Tokyo.
'at this stage, Japan does not need to issue an emergency statement,' Japan's top spokesman, Suhe fangxiu, said at a regular news conference.
Abe has set up a new crisis working group, which is seen as the first step towards declaring a state of emergency.
