Democratic presidential candidates Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders canceled their primary night rally on Tuesday, succumbing to government officials' guidance on the coronavirus outbreak, saying there will be no audience for the next debate between the two.
The showdown rally - the first major U.S. campaign to be cancelled because of the outbreak - is scheduled to take place in Cleveland, Ohio.
Next week, Ohio, Florida, Illinois and Arizona will hold primaries to nominate democratic challengers for Republican president Donald Trump. Six states, including Michigan and Washington, held competitions on Tuesday.
The Democratic Party's race has narrowed to two wars between former Vice President Biden and moderate Sanders, a senator from Vermont who calls himself a democratic socialist.
Both candidates criticized the trump administration's response to the outbreak of the coronavirus in the United States, which causes highly infectious and sometimes fatal respiratory diseases, known as covid-19.
Their campaign says they will consult with health officials about future events.
