Beijing, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) - after the British government rejected the EU's request for consistency on major policy issues in the future, French Foreign Minister Jean Claude Le derien warned that the EU and the UK would "tear each other apart" in future relations negotiations, the BBC reported.
According to the current situation, it is difficult for Britain to reach a free trade agreement with the EU before the end of the year, because both sides will stick to it in order to protect their own interests.
The British government has always said that it hopes to redefine its future relations through negotiations with the EU in accordance with the principles of "friendly cooperation, equality and mutual benefit".

UK EU future relations
David Frost, Prime Minister Johnson's chief negotiator for brexit, has repeatedly said that Britain hopes to work out a free trade agreement between Britain and Europe based on the free trade agreement signed by the EU and Canada in 2016. The UK also said it would not continue to be consistent with the EU in policy areas beyond 2021.
Frost said the UK does not need any special arrangements for its future relationship with the EU. He said that the UK hopes to establish friendly cooperative relations with the EU and that they are ready to negotiate with the EU.
Britain officially seceded from the European Union on January 31. However, in view of the existing bilateral transition agreement, the UK will continue to comply with all EU rules and regulations until the end of 2020.
