Xinhua news agency, Berlin, January 16 (Zhang Yuhua) Germany's average annual inflation rate fell to 1.4% in 2019, down from 1.9% in 2018 and 1.8% in 2017, according to data released by the Federal Bureau of statistics on January 16.
Data shows that Germany's inflation rate in December 2019 was 1.5%, excluding the impact of energy prices, and the inflation rate in that month was 1.8%. Food prices rose 2.1% year-on-year, with meat and meat products rising significantly.
The ECB's inflation target for the eurozone is just under 2%. But since 2019, inflation in Germany, the eurozone's largest economy, has only reached 2% in April. If the inflation rate continues to fall below the target level, it will affect enterprise investment and personal consumption, thus hindering economic growth. In order to fight against the risk of deflation and stimulate the economic recovery of the euro area, the European Central Bank continued to relax monetary policy, but the latest inflation data from Germany shows that the easing policy of the European Central Bank still failed to effectively improve the inflation rate.
The German Economic Advisory Council had previously predicted that the average annual inflation rate in Germany would rise to 1.6% in 2020.
