U.S. President Donald Trump approved the U.S. to impose more economic sanctions on Iran Tuesday in response to Iran's retaliatory attacks on U.S. bases in Iraq.
Trump told reporters in the White House the same day that he "just" approved the sanctions, and the current sanctions "are very severe" and "now it has increased substantially".
Trump did not disclose the details of the sanctions.
US forces attacked and killed Qassim Sulaimani, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard's "Holy City Brigade" in Iraq Wednesday. Iran vowed severe retaliation, early on the 8th to the U.S. military base in Iraq to launch missiles.
On Iran's retaliatory strike, trump said in the White House on the 8th that he does not intend to respond by force, but will "immediately" impose more economic sanctions.
The U.S. side said Friday that in Iran's retaliatory missile strike, the U.S. military "suffered no casualties" and the base "suffered only the smallest loss"; Iranian media had reported that at least 80 U.S. troops died.
