A U.S. federal judge issued a permanent restraining order Tuesday, blocking president Trump's attempt to transfer $3.6 billion in military construction funds to the construction of the U.S. - Mexico border wall.
David Briones, a judge at El Paso District Court in Texas, issued the restraining order, with a 21 page ruling.
The ruling was a major setback for trump, whose government vowed to build a border wall of at least 450 miles between the United States and Mexico by November 2020, the month of the U.S. presidential election. Trump's claim that the construction of the wall can prevent illegal immigrants from crossing the border is also the focus of his policy.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said the government would appeal the ruling.
