British Prime Minister Johnson will officially announce the December 12 election on Wednesday, calling on voters to support him and promising to "complete the withdrawal in the next few weeks".
Parliament last week agreed to an early election to end two years of deep divisions over brexit. Such differences have weakened investor confidence in the UK economy and undermined the UK's international position.
The election results are hard to predict. The current British recession has disrupted the traditional party boundaries of voters. Small parties have the opportunity to challenge the two largest parties, Johnson's Conservative Party and the center left Labor Party.
Johnson will return to the Downing Street prime minister's residence on Wednesday after dissolving Parliament and paying a formal visit to Queen Elizabeth. He will launch the conservative campaign at a rally later in the day.
"I don't want an election, no prime minister wants an early election, especially in December," he will say, according to a prepared speech.
"But in the present situation, we have no choice at all - because only when we finish brexit in the coming weeks can we focus on all the priorities of the British people."
