According to Qatar's al Jazeera television website, an earthquake near Mindanao island in the southern Philippines on the 29th has killed at least four people.
A 15-year-old high school student who was hit by a hollow brick in the earthquake has been confirmed dead, the report quoted the Magsaysay town public information office as saying.
Officials in the city of tulunan, near the epicenter, said the city hall had been severely damaged in the earthquake and authorities had received "a large number of casualties reports" but were still trying to verify the confirmation.
It is reported that the earthquake occurred on Mindanao island in the south of the Philippines, with strong feelings in many places nearby. When the strong earthquake happened, it was time for local work and class, many people were frightened and rushed into the streets.
The depth of the earthquake's epicenter is shallow, so it may be more destructive, AFP said.
Renato solidum, director of the Institute of volcanoes and earthquakes in the Philippines, warned that aftershocks could follow, calling on people to stay outside as much as possible.
It is reported that the Philippines is located in the Pacific Rim volcanic seismic belt, with frequent earthquakes. At least five people were killed, dozens of buildings were damaged and hundreds of people are still displaced.
