Britain's prime minister Johnson fought for a general election on Tuesday to break the deadlock of brexit, which has been in chaos after nearly three and a half years of struggle in Parliament.
The European Union agreed to extend the flexibility of brexit for three months. At home, there are still differences between Parliament and voters on how or even whether to withdraw.
Johnson had vowed to lead Britain out of Europe on October 31, "if it doesn't work, it will work." he had repeatedly called for an election to end what he called a nightmare paralysis. The current situation in the UK has led to the failure of any result of brexit, seriously weakening public trust.
"We can't keep the paralysis going, either way, we have to hold elections," Johnson told parliament. "The house of commons can't kidnap the country anymore."
The prospect of Britain's first Christmas election since 1923 is uncertain: its retreat has left many voters exhausted and angry, eroding their loyalty to the two major parties, the Conservative Party and the labour party.
