U.S. Commerce Secretary rose said Tuesday that the trump administration's tough shift in trade policy will bring some short-term costs, but these costs will be offset by the long-term benefits of the U.S. economy.
Rose said U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods sent to the U.S. put Beijing at the negotiating table and helped bring about a principled trade agreement with China last Friday. He said tariffs imposed by the United States have also accelerated the transfer of production from China to other places by many enterprises.
"The trump administration is more focused on trade than any previous administration. This transformation will bring some short-term costs, but will bring greater, long-term, potential and possible benefits, "Rose said at an event hosted by Federalist society.
