According to the preliminary information, the agricultural products purchased by Chinese enterprises from the United States this year include 20 million tons of soybeans, 700000 tons of pork, 700000 tons of sorghum, 230000 tons of wheat and 320000 tons of cotton. China will also speed up the purchase of American agricultural products. "
China's purchase of American agricultural products has been one of the key requirements for president trump to resolve the months long trade war between the two countries. Meanwhile, African swine fever has killed millions of Chinese pigs, prompting China to continue buying American pork despite high tariffs in recent months.
Trump said on Friday that in the first phase of the deal to end the trade war, China had agreed to buy $40 billion to $50 billion worth of US agricultural products.
According to the trade data of the U.S. Bureau of statistics, from January to August, U.S. exports of sorghum to China totaled 62807500 tons, while pork exports during the same period totaled 29445300 tons.
According to the weekly export sales data released by the US Department of agriculture (USDA), due to the recent increase in pork procurement, the total amount of US pork purchased by China this year is about 300000 tons, and the total amount of pork shipped in 2020 is about 135000 tons.
The data inconsistency between China and the United States makes the U.S. livestock market more confused. It is not known whether the closely watched weekly export sales data of the United States includes pig carcass. Chinese importers prefer pig carcass to other segmentation methods.
"There's a lot of confusion about whether to include pig carcasses in export statistics," an unauthorized USDA official told Reuters on the sidelines of the USDA data users meeting in Washington on Tuesday.
