The supersonic military aircraft is fascinated by its cool shape. It's almost the fastest aircraft in the world. What's the difference between the two designs? Let's start with what this "spike" is.
What is "spike"?
What is this "spike"? There are many legends about it on the rivers and lakes: fighting bayonets with enemies! And lightning protection! Breaking through the sound barrier depends on it! Actually, it's not so fantastic. The name of this "spike" is Airspeed Tube.
Aircraft can fly to the sky, depending on the pressure difference generated by the high-speed airflow flowing through the wing surface. The relative speed of airflow and airplane is one of the decisive factors of lift. This relative velocity is called "airspeed", which is an important parameter of flight. Only by knowing this parameter can we know the current lift, drag and other data, and then operate the aircraft reliably. The airspeed tube is responsible for the important work of measuring airspeed.
The airspeed tube consists of two sleeved tubes, one connected with the outside world to obtain the current ambient pressure, and the other directly facing the wind to sense the total pressure caused by the airflow. The pressure difference between the two tubes causes the deformation of the diaphragm box or the height difference of the liquid column, which can give a concrete indication of the current airspeed.
