U.S. President Trump said Sunday that he did not want the United States to do business with Huawei in China, even though government departments were weighing whether to extend Huawei's licensing time for purchasing products from U.S. companies.
Reuters and other media reported on Friday that the U.S. Department of Commerce is expected to extend Huawei's licensing time to buy products from U.S. companies to serve existing customers.
Sources said the "temporary full authorization" would be extended for 90 days.
Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One in New Jersey that he did not want to do business with Huawei for national security reasons.
He called Huawei a small part of its business exempt from the overall ban, but things would be "very complicated". He did not say whether the government would extend the "temporary full authorization".
Larry Kudlow, director of the White House's National Economic Committee, said earlier Sunday that the Ministry of Commerce would extend its authorization to Huawei for three months to show "sincerity" in full trade negotiations with China.
"We will give our companies a three-month moratorium," Kudrow said on NBC's Meet the Press program.
