India abruptly announced the abolition of the "special status" of India-controlled Kashmir on the 5th, which was strongly condemned by Pakistan. The two sides launched a new round of diplomatic and military confrontation, and the regional atmosphere was tense.
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who called for Trump's mediation on the night of the incident, called Iranian President Ruhani a week later.
Khan said Kashmir was an internationally recognized disputed area, accused India of violating UN Security Council resolutions, and reiterated Pakistan's desire to resolve disputes through peaceful means.
Ruhani called on both sides to seek a diplomatic solution, stop persecuting innocent people in Kashmir, and stressed the need to allow local Muslims to exercise their legitimate rights and interests. Both agreed that military means should not be used to settle disputes.
Srinagar, the capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir, has been disconnected from the outside world for a week since India imposed military control and restricted communication networks, AFP reported. Residents in the city were forced to queue up to use two telephones, accused of "returning to the Stone Age".
