China's official media, Global Times, said on its Twitter Sunday that FedEx (FDX.N) may be listed as an "unreliable entity" in China because of Huawei's package incident and that "Chinese netizens will not accept a second apology from FedEx".
Less than a month after FedEx apologized for its last "miscarriage" of Huawei parcels, the company said Sunday that Yihuawei parcels were banned from sending to the United States because of misoperation. "FedEx can accept and ship all Huawei products, except Huawei entities listed in the U.S. entity list."
FedEx said in an email statement in response to Reuters, "We apologize for the mistake in returning the package to the sender." Reuters has not yet received a reply from the Ministry of Commerce of China and FedEx on whether FedEx will be included in the list of unreliable entities.
Meanwhile, a court document showed that Huawei had sued the U.S. Department of Commerce on Friday, questioning whether the equipment shipped from China to the United States was within the jurisdiction of the U.S. export control regulations.
In 2017, Huawei shipped telecommunications equipment, including a computer server and an Ethernet Switch, from China to a laboratory in California for testing. After testing, it planned to ship the equipment back to China, but the equipment was subsequently seized in Alaska and so far. No decision has yet been made on whether an export licence is required. Huawei believes that these devices are manufactured outside the United States and shipped back to their countries of origin, so no export licence is required.
FedEx had previously forwarded two packages to Huawei's Asian address to the United States and tried to change the routes of the other two packages without giving specific explanations. Relevant Chinese authorities subsequently initiated an investigation procedure for FedEx's failure to deliver express mail by name and address, and sent an inquiry notice to FedEx (China) Ltd. on June 14.
