U.S. Secretary of State Pompeo continued to press Huawei Wednesday, saying the Chinese technology giant was at the behest of the Chinese government.
"Huawei is a tool of the Chinese government," Pompeo said in an interview with Fox Business Network. "They are so closely connected that it's hard for Americans to understand."
According to a U.S. court document, Huawei, a Chinese telecom equipment manufacturer, has filed a motion for a summary judgment against the U.S. government's initiative. This is Huawei's latest move to resist U.S. government sanctions. Huawei filed a motion Tuesday in the East Texas District Court to request the court to declare the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2019 unconstitutional.
In an interview recorded Tuesday, Pompeo did not comment on the lawsuit, but highlighted what the U.S. government called the company's threat to national security.
"Our company works with the U.S. government, that is to say, they abide by our laws, but no president directs an American private enterprise. This is very different in China. They operate under a different set of rules.
Huawei has repeatedly denied that it is under the control of the Chinese government, the military or intelligence agencies.
