After the United States stepped up sanctions, Iran said on Sunday that it might withdraw from a treaty banning the spread of nuclear weapons.

Since the Trump administration withdrew from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and strengthened sanctions against Iraq last year, the US and Iraq have escalated.
Earlier this month, the United States blacklisted the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and demanded that Iranian oil buyers stop buying oil from Iraq, or face sanctions.

"Iran has a lot of choices, and the government authorities are considering it... One of them is to withdraw from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)." Iranian official radio and television station IRIB website quoted Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif.

When US President Trump is preparing to abandon the nuclear agreements signed by several major countries in the world with Iran in 2015, Iran has threatened to withdraw from the NPT.
