South Korea has the highest popularity of smartphones in the world. In order to prevent traffic accidents, a city set up flashlights and laser beams at intersections to remind "smartphone bowers" to look up and slow down drivers.
The reason for the design of this system is that there is growing concern that pedestrians will cause accidents by staring at mobile phones, while the road accident casualty rate in Korea is at a high level among developed countries.
The Korea Institute of Construction Technology believes that installing flash systems on zebra crossings can alert pedestrians and drivers at the same time.
In addition to installing red, yellow and blue light emitting diodes (LED) lamps on the pavement, "mobile phone bowers" will also receive laser warning beams from poles, and mobile phone applications will also alert when crossing the intersection.
