Tokyo District Court said Thursday that Carlos Ghosn's new legal team had applied for bail for the ousted chairman of Nissan Motor Co., after a judge rejected a series of requests, calling Ghosn a flight risk.
Ghosn was arrested in November on suspicion of financial irregularities and remains in detention in a Tokyo prison. Earlier this month, he selected a new team of long-term defense lawyers, Junichiro Hironaka, as a key replacement for Motonari Otsuru, a lawyer who had investigated him in the prosecutor's office.
Hironaka's aggressive style contrasts sharply with the low-key approach adopted by media shy Otsuru.
