Thai International Airlines cancelled more than a dozen flights to and from Europe on Thursday after tensions with India led to the closure of Pakistani airspace. Thousands of passengers scrambled.
Thai Airlines said in a statement that flights scheduled to fly to Pakistan's airspace on Thursday will fly between London, Munich, Paris, Brussels, Milan, Vienna, Stockholm, Zurich, Copenhagen, Oslo, Frankfurt and Rome.
This has led passengers to plan to leave Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport in search of alternative flights. Most airlines'European flights leave after midnight.
Colonel Umnart Chomshai, head of tourism police at Suvarnabhumi Airport, told Reuters: "Last night about 5,000 passengers came to check in but could not take it, mainly Thai Airlines."
Another airport official said a help centre had been set up for stranded passengers.
