U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un began talks on Thursday, the second day of their second summit. Both sides expressed their hope for progress on key issues of improving relations and denuclearization.
On Wednesday, Trump and Kim Jong Il met in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital, for the first round of brief talks and dinner. Both were optimistic. Trump said he was satisfied with the progress of the talks, despite some criticisms that they were not moving fast enough.
"I've been saying from the beginning that speed doesn't matter to me. "I'm very grateful for not testing nuclear rockets, missiles, any of them, and I appreciate it very much," Trump told reporters, as he and Kim sat at the round table of the Metropole Hotel in the French colonial era before their meeting. "We just want to make the right deal."
Since the end of 2017, North Korea has not conducted any nuclear or intercontinental ballistic missile tests.
