Trump and Kim Jong-un will meet Wednesday and Thursday in Hanoi, Vietnam's capital. The historic summit held in Singapore eight months ago was the first meeting between the incumbent President of the United States and North Korean leaders.
Although there is no real expectation that the second Turkey meeting will reach a final agreement to make North Korea abandon its nuclear weapons, some expect that the United States and North Korea may agree at this summit to declare the formal end of the 1950-1953 Korean War. The war ended with an armistice agreement between the two sides, but no peace agreement was signed.
Trump traveled to Vietnam by Air Force One on Monday at 1730 GMT and is expected to arrive in Hanoi at dusk local time on Tuesday.
Trump said Sunday in Washington that he believed he was in agreement with Kim Jong-un and that they had developed "very, very good relationships".
In a tweet on Monday, he stressed the benefits of North Korea's abandonment of nuclear weapons. "Under the complete denuclearization, North Korea will quickly become an economic power... Chairman Kim Jong-un will make a wise decision!" Trump said.
Trump told reporters that he and Kim Jong-un would have a "great summit".
"We hope that denuclearization, as far as the economy is concerned, will enable North Korea to set a number of speed records."
