Bahrain's Supreme Court has maintained a three-year prison sentence against three relatives of a prominent exiled political activist, a human rights organization that the United Nations described Monday as retaliation for illegal family connections.
The appeal court in Bahrain rejected the appeal of three family members of Said Ahmed Alwadaei, the London-based human rights organization, the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (BIRD), said in a statement.
Alwadaei's brother and daughter-in-law, Said Nazar Alwadaei, his cousin Mahmoud Marzooq Mansour and his mother sentenced security-related fees in December 2017 in Law Hagil Hassan Mansour.
