On February 6, the BBC News Network quoted a person in charge of the cemetery as saying that the agency found that Marx's tombstone had been damaged on February 4. Up to now, in the absence of the initiator, the agency seems to have "cursorily closed the case".
"At present, the preliminary investigation has been completed, and the investigation at this stage has come to an end. If there's any clue in the future, we'll look into it."
As for Marx's original tombstone, the person in charge said that it was "impossible to repair it".
British netizens are not buying it.
Some tweeters left a message saying they had found the tombstone smashed as early as January 28. In other words, the cemetery officers were at least a week late to find out.
