Brussels (Reuters) - NATO Allied leaders will hold a summit in London in December, Western Military Alliance Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement Wednesday.
The choice of geographic location adds symbolism as Britain prepares to leave the EU next month, claiming that it will play a key role in the security of the African continent.
The last NATO summit, held at the headquarters of the Brussels Union in July, saw U.S. President Donald Trump challenge many European allies, including Germany, to spend more on their own defences and reduce their so-called dependence on Russian energy. Need.
"We thank Britain for agreeing to hold this meeting on NATO's 70th anniversary," Stoltenberg said.
"London is the first headquarters of NATO. The United Kingdom is one of the twelve founding members of the Alliance and continues to play a key role in the Alliance and make an important contribution to our common security.
"The conference in London will be an opportunity... to address the security challenges we face now and in the future and to ensure that NATO continues to adapt to ensure the security of nearly a billion people."
