A spokesman for the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said Thursday that Britain's withdrawal from the EU without a framework agreement to maintain some economic integration was the biggest risk facing the UK economy in the near future.
Gerry Rice, a spokesman for the IMF, told reporters that all the outcomes would cost because they would create obstacles to the UK's current "frictionless" single market with the EU.
"The most significant short-term risk facing the UK economy is to withdraw from the EU without a withdrawal agreement and a framework for future relations with the EU," Rice said.
Rice also said it was too early to assess the economic damage caused by the closure of the U.S. government, but the longer the situation lasted, the greater the impact on the U.S. economy.
