Three U.S. crude oil tankers are heading for China from the Gulf of Mexico, the first crude oil shipments to China since the end of September and last month's 90-day trade truce between China and the United States, trade sources said Monday.
Ship brokers and ship tracking data show that the cargo ships left Galveston, Texas, last month and are scheduled to arrive at Chinese ports between late January and early March. This marks a change in the situation in which Chinese buyers have avoided buying American crude oil since the outbreak of trade disputes last summer.
"It seems that China has resumed importing U.S. crude oil," said a ship broker in the United States. The person asked for anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter and said that the destination information might change.
