U.S. President Trump said Thursday that he had achieved great success with China on trade issues. One day ago, officials from the United States and China concluded three days of trade negotiations in Beijing.
The talks were the first face-to-face talks between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping since they met in Buenos Aires last December and agreed to a 90-day truce in the trade war.
Trump made the comments to reporters as he left the White House for a visit to the southern border of the United States, but he did not elaborate.
Washington has made a long list of demands to the Chinese government that will rewrite the terms of trade between the world's two largest economies. These requirements include changing China's policies on intellectual property protection, technology transfer, industrial subsidies and other non-tariff barriers to trade.
The 90-day cease-fire period has passed for about 40 days, and there are no definite details of progress yet. The talks in Beijing were held at the Deputy ministerial level, so no agreement to end the trade war is expected.
