U.S. President Trump on Tuesday expressed his yearning for the low interest rate policy of the Federal Reserve (FED/Federal Reserve) during the recession of 2007-2009. He said he could boost the U.S. economy if the Federal Reserve cut interest rates to zero.
"The economic data look really good. You can imagine how easy it would be if I enjoyed a zero interest rate policy for as long as the previous government did, instead of raising interest rates so quickly as now to normalize them. Nevertheless, since the general election in 2016, the stock market has risen sharply!" Trump tweeted early in the morning.

Federal Reserve Chairman Powell said last Friday that even if President Trump asked, he would not resign. Faced with Trump's sharp criticism of the Fed's interest rate hike, this statement clearly demonstrates the independence of the Fed.

Legal experts said it was not clear whether Trump could fire Powell.
After the Federal Reserve decided to raise interest rates for the fourth time in 2018 in mid-December, it was reported that Trump had discussed with his advisers the feasibility of firing Powell.
Trump repeatedly attacked the Federal Reserve in the last few months of 2018, attributing market volatility to the steady and gradual interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve and calling it the "only problem" for the U.S. economy.
