Reuters, from some officials and a memorandum to foreign airports, learned that the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) asked foreign airports to strengthen inspections of electronic products carried by American passengers and to adopt security procedures that had been implemented in the United States last year.
Due to growing concerns that passengers may carry hidden explosives, TSA has strengthened inspections of us passenger electronics since last summer.
Since July 2017, TSA has asked domestic airline passengers to take all the electronic products that are larger than their mobile phones, including tablets, electronic readers and video games, and take out the check from the carry on luggage. The new memorandum says TSA requires foreign airports to take these processes now.
The memo also requires foreign airports to adopt the policy issued by TSA in 2017, and passengers may be required to remove food, powder, and other items that lead to clutter in the bag and prevent clear imaging in the X optical security machine.
A number of US officials say these security reinforcement measures are not due to new threats.
