The president of Italy on Monday asked the leaders of the lower house of Parliament to inquire about whether the 5-Star Movement and the central left Democratic Party (PD) could form a coalition government, but the initial reaction suggested that the possibility was not high.
After the election last month, Italy President Mattarella (Sergio Mattarella) is trying to end the political deadlock in seven weeks, and he asked the speaker of the house of Commons Roberto Fico to report the findings to him on Thursday.
Fico, who is under the five-star movement, said, "I will start to act immediately." He had to face strong doubts about co-operation within the two camps.
Matteo Orfini, the leader of the Democratic Party, quickly eliminated the hope of success.
"There are no conditions for a political agreement between the Democratic Party and the five star movement. We are our consistent attitude. We are retelling this statement," Orfini said.
