The Pentagon said the United States and South Korea have agreed to resume joint military exercises in the early next month. The matter is expected, although President Trump of the United States plans to meet with the North Korean leader Kim Jeong-eun.
Seoul and Washington said in January that they will postpone "key decisions" (Key Resolve) and "yingyao" (Foal Eagle) two annual military exercises, South Korea held until the end of Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, to create conditions for the resumption of talks between South Korea and North korea.
South Korea and the United States will hold a joint military exercise in April 1st, the South Korean Defense Department said on Tuesday.
"The military performance will start in April 1st, 'the size will be the same as the previous years'," the US military said in a statement late Monday.
"Our joint exercise is for defense. North Korea has no reason to regard it as a provocation," the US Defense Ministry spokesman Christopher Logan said in another statement.
The United States Department of Defense said it had told the Korean military the schedule of the military performance. Logan said that the exercise is expected to end near the end of May.
Logan says there will be about 23700 United States soldiers and 300000 Korean soldiers to participate in the two joint military exercises. The two military exercise included computer simulation and field exercises.
He said that the military exercise was well planned, not a response to any specific Korean action or the current situation on the Korean Peninsula.
