A spokesman for the military base in Arlington, Virginia, and the local fire department said that a letter was opened on the base on Tuesday. Seven people felt sick on the spot, and three of them were sent to hospital for treatment.
"Someone opened a letter in the office, and everyone in the field began to feel very uncomfortable," said Leah Rubalcaba, spokesman for Myer-Henderson Hall.
The Arlington Fire Department said in the text that the three people who were sent to the hospital are now in stable condition.
The letter was opened at the base of the Marine Corps department, where it is located near Washington.
"Received a letter containing unknown ingredients," the Marines tweeted.
"The affected building immediately took precautions and evacuated people," the Marine Corps said.
