Lenovo Group (0992.HK), the world's largest PC maker, posted a net loss of $ 289 million in the third quarter of 2017/18 from a net profit of $ 98 million in the third quarter of 2017/18, due to U.S. tax reform Offsetting deferred tax assets.
The company also made a loss from profit to loss in the first three quarters, with a net loss of 222 million U.S. dollars, compared with a net profit of 428 million U.S. dollars in the same period of last year. Lenovo had previously issued a profit warning, due to the tax reform act recently promulgated by the United States, a one-off deduction of about $ 400 million from the deferred tax assets is expected in the first three quarters of the year.
Despite changes in the tax environment in the United States, Lenovo said that "the Group believes the lower tax rate in the United States will benefit the Group's long-term business operation in the region."
Excluding this factor, the Group's gross profit jumped 10% YoY to USD1,751m in the third quarter due to the improvement in its product portfolio of personal computers and smart devices and data center businesses. Its gross profit margin increased 0.4 ppt YoY to 13.5%.
