U.S. President Trump made the first State of the Union address in parliament on Tuesday. He vowed to protect U.S. intellectual property but did not mention China. The Trump administration accused China of trade abuses.

Outsiders had expected that Trump would warn some countries of unfair trade practices such as the theft of intellectual property rights and the state subsidies for their industries.

However, Trump's speech on the content of trade only three sentences, he repeatedly reiterated the need for "fair and mutually beneficial" trade, but did not elaborate.

"We will work hard to fix bad trade deals and start negotiations on new ones," Trump said, adding: "We will protect U.S. workers and U.S. intellectual property by vigorously enforcing our trade rules."

Mr Trump has threatened to withdraw North American Free Trade Agreements with Canada and Mexico, as well as free trade agreements with the United States and South Korea unless they support U.S. manufacturing and American employment.
