White House officials said on Tuesday that during U.S. President Trump's participation in the Davos World Economic Forum this week, President Trump will meet heads of state of Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu and British Prime Minister Theresa May.
Trump will take the opportunity to Davos on Wednesday evening to participate in the forum and will encourage investment in the United States and cooperation in national security, including the fight against Islamic State and opposition to North Korea's plans to develop nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.
Trump has a full day meeting in Davos Thursday and will make a keynote speech on the forum Friday and will return to the United States later in the day.
White House National Economic Council director Gary Cohn said Trump would encourage global businesses to invest in the United States and enjoy the benefits of Trump's tax cuts in his speech.
Cohen said Trump will also emphasize its "U.S. priority" policy and seek more mutually beneficial trade policies from U.S. allies. Trump believes existing international trade agreements are bad for the United States.
"The president will continue to advocate fair economic competition and will show that it is impossible to have free and open trade unless the responsibility of each country is not pursued in accordance with the rules," Cohen told reporters.
Trump will be the first U.S. president to attend the Davos forum in 20 years, giving him the chance to deal with the "globalist" elite. Trump has lashed out against such people during the 2016 presidential campaign.
In addition to meeting global leaders, Trump will host a small dinner hosted by European executives on Thursday.
