Mexican Minister of Economy Ildefonso Guajardo said on Tuesday that it is expected that the Trump government will report to Congress on the plan to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) early next week. The pavement paves the way for talks before the end of August.
Guajardo said he would have further information when he met with US Trade Representative Wright Hirsch on Thursday at his APEC meeting in Vietnam.
Trump in the 2016 presidential election vowed that if the NAFTA can not be adjusted for the United States favorable, will withdraw from the 1994 by the United States, Canada and Mexico signed an agreement.
"US senior officials may send a notice to Congress at the beginning of next week," Guajardo told the Mexican media on Tuesday. He met with US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and other officials one day before in Washington.
In Washington, Rose did not predict the exact time to send a notice, said the need to consult the views of Congress.
In a meeting on Tuesday, US senators said Ross and the new US trade representative, Wright Heze, expressed the willingness to maintain the current trilateral relationship in the NAFTA talks.
Guajardo also said that the Mexican-Mexican trade dispute between sugar products is expected to be resolved within two weeks, breaking the deadlock before the deadline of June 5.
