The US Geological Survey (USGS) said a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in northern Antarctica was not expected to cause a tsunami.

The epicenter is located 61 miles (98 km) northeast of Visokoi Island. Vesoko Island belongs to the British Overseas Territories South Sandwich Islands (South Sandwich Islands). The USGS says the source is shallow and is only 6.2 miles (10 km) lower than the seabed.

The US Pacific tsunami early warning agency said the earthquake is not expected to cause a tsunami.
