The project is a breakthrough for Queensland, changing the state's history without a megawatt-class wind farm.

The $ 380 million wind farm was built by the RATCH-Australia Group and was funded by investments from the National Bank of Australia (NAB), Societe Generale and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFJ). (Another source said: syndicate also includes a company called "ABZ" financial institutions, the author has not yet confirmed whether the ANZ clerical error.)

Earlier this year, the wind farm was awarded a long-term power purchase agreement signed by Queensland regional power company Ergon, which buys all its output until 2030 to help local power grids and power retailers achieve their renewable energy targets. In July, Ergon merged with Energex to form Australia's largest energy company, Queensland Energy, headquartered in Townsville.

Queensland currently has a small wind farm with 12 MW of wind energy in Ravenshoe and Thursday Island, and wind power is lagging far behind South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales (3,500 MW nationwide). Currently, Windlab's Kennedy wind farm and Infigen Energy's Forsayth wind power project are under construction. The Queensland government's advisory group believes that if the state Labor government wants to meet its 50 percent renewable energy target by 2030, the state will need about 2,200 megawatts of large-scale wind power projects.

The Mt Emerald project is one of the few large wind power projects in Australia that has been in operation since the federal government reviewed the large renewable energy target and decided to reduce it from 41,000 GWh to 33,000 GWh. Of course there are other wind farms that have been built or are under construction, such as Ararat, Hornsdale, Coonooer Bridge, Sapphire and Crookwell, but these projects benefit from a 20-year contract from the capital city government. According to the relevant policies of the SAR government, it is necessary to reach 100% renewable energy by 2020.
